Simon West took a few years away from the director’s chair in between shooting Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and horror thriller remake When a Stranger Calls. But more recently, he’s been busy, tackling historical drama Purple Mountain, and another remake, The Mechanic, starring Jason Statham. And now he’s looking at more action with Medallion.
Utilising similar themes to Taken, Medallion sees a father given just a few scant hours to track down his kidnapped daughter. Problem is, she’s locked in the trunk of an unidentified New York cab, and could be anywhere in the city. Plus, you know how grumpy those drivers can be.
Former US Weekly journalist David Guggenheim, who arrived in style after selling his spec script** Safe House** to Universal, has penned the screenplay, which McG has picked up to produce.
According to the LA Times, there has been interest from several actors, including Clive Owen and former West collaborator Nic "Con Air" Cage. But while there’s no actual name attached just yet, there’s plenty of time to find a star. Even if West does take the Medallion job, he’s going to be busy for a while shooting another kidnap-based thriller, Protection, starring Dwayne Johnson. What, no romantic comedies sparked your interest, Si?
