Action thriller Protection seems to be evolving faster than the half-human creature out of Splice: now Simon West is back on board to direct the movie.
Sales company IM Global released a statement (picked up by Coming Soon) announcing that West had signed on to the project. So far, so standard press blather, but then you might recall he was on the project back when it was first touted at Cannes in 2009, with Paul Walker starring.
Since then, it has been through the development wringer, with Walker and West dropping off to be replaced by Clive Owen and District 13: Ultimatum’s Patrick Alessandrin behind the camera. At least, until earlier this month, when Dwayne Johnson took over the lead.
He’s starring as "Hombre", a disgraced former Special Forces soldier who sees a chance at redemption by locating and helping a judge’s 21-year-old daughter, who is under threat for agreeing to testify against the drug cartel goons who murdered her father.
With a script by Brendan Noonan, the movie is scheduled to shoot later this year in New Mexico.
