Since Tom Cruise’s box office cachet took a hit with Knight & Day in the US, the talk of Hollywood has been whether Paramount will do a **Crystal Skull **and have a younger face in Mission: Impossible 4 for Ethan Hunt to train to take his place. So what better person that Simon Pegg? Okay, okay… not really. But he is now negotiating to return to the role of lab tech Benji Dunn for the new movie{ =nofollow}.

It would seem that having JJ Abrams still attached to the franchise (as producer and story consultant) is in Pegg’s favour, since according to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is now in talks to make a second appearance in the series.

Brad Bird is getting ready to wield the megaphone and even though the studio has yet to officially give the go-ahead, he is now busy casting the movie for a likely September start-of-shooting.

Other details are being held in secret dossiers in the sort of well-protected vaults you’d need Ethan Hunt himself to break into, but we do know that Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec have written the script.

Pegg, meanwhile, is getting set to launch his new comedy, Paul, co-starring Nick Frost, and featuring the pair as nerds who meet a real alien, at this coming week’s Comic-Con in San Diego. Empire will be there to force all the relevant information out of them, including getting Simon to tell us every plot point in M. If we ask nicely. And bribe him with Jaffa Cakes.
