Following a year in which Christmas was disrupted and spent in separate houses for many people, it's heartwarming to think that we might be getting closer to a more "normal" festive season (fingers, toes and baubles crossed). But what if Santa brought not joy and presents, but a sense of impending doom? That's the basic premise behind dark comedy Silent Night, which stars Keira Knightley and Matthew Goode, and has a trailer online.

Written and directed by Camille Griffin, *Silent Night *follows parents Nell (Knightley) and Simon (Goode) who have invited their closest friends to join their family for Christmas dinner at their idyllic home in the English countryside. As the group comes together, it feels like old times – but behind all of the laughter and merriment, something is not quite right. The world outside is facing impending doom, and no amount of gifts, games or Prosecco can make mankind’s imminent destruction go away...

Alongside the two stars, this is a cast full of great performers, including Roman Griffin Davis, Annabelle Wallis, Lily-Rose Depp, Ṣọpé Dìrísù, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Lucy Punch and Rufus Jones.

Silent Night will be in UK cinemas from 3 December, and then available on Altitude Film's site from 6 December. In the States, it hits cinemas the same day, along with a streaming release on AMC+.
