In another clear sign of confidence in its fledgling Mortal Instruments franchise, Constantin Film is looking to lock in the services of Sigourney Weaver for the planned second entry in the series, T****he Mortal Instruments: City Of Ash.

The film will continue the story of Clary Fray (Lily Collins), who learns in City Of Bones that she’s a Shadowhunter who can see and fight demons and is introduced to a whole new world of monsters, werewolves and other supernatural types she never knew existed.

Weaver is in talks to play the ruthless leader of the Shadowhunters, driven by an insatiable desire to destroy the man who killed her son. If she signs on, she’ll join a returning cast that includes Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Kevin Zegers, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jemima West and Robert Sheehan, with director Harald Zwart also planning to be back behind the camera.

With an October shooting date already in the diary, the** Mortal Instruments** film series appears ready to make full use of Cassandra Clay’s tomes, with work also underway on a prequel based on **Infernal Devices. The first film, meanwhile, comes out here on August 21.
