It's got a release date - August 7, 2009. It has a name - G.I. Joe - and a director - Stephen Sommers. And now it has a female lead, in the shapely form of Sienna Miller.

The story, lest we forget, is about the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, a collection of words that means bugger all but does give us the acronym G.I.J.O.E., so that's alright then. This Brussels-based international action team travels around the world battling the evil COBRA (led by a dastardly Scottish bad guy - we're thinking Sean Connery in The Avengers but a little less, well, bad) and not invading small, helpless nations (we hope).

Miller's character is described as "a raven-haired baroness and sexy femme fatale skilled in espionage", which means that we can expect La Miller to be reaching for the Nice 'n' Easy any time now to get her barnet in order. Her casting follows something of a mini-tradition for Sommers - it's the third itme in a row he's cast an English starlet in one of his films, following Rachel Weisz in The Mummy and Kate Beckinsale in Van Helsing.

There's still no word on the male lead, or indeed anyone else - Sam Worthington was in talks for the role, but since Miller is described as "the first thesp to enlist", we're going to go ahead and say that those talks haven't reached a positive conclusion. But with a February start date pencilled in and that release date (the studio is hoping) set in stone, expect more announcements soon.

So what do you reckon? Is Sienna a "sexy femme fatale"? Can she go raven with that colouring, sweetie? And what the heck is a Joint Operating Entity anyway?
