In 2015 Denis Villeneuve cemented his growing reputation as one of the smartest and most thrilling directors working today with Sicario, a brutal morally-grey thriller tracing the war on drugs and tensions around the US/Mexican border. He might not be back for sequel Soldado, but Gomorrah director Stefano Sollima’s follow-up sees Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin return for an intense new story of terrorism and human trafficking across the border.

Next up is a shot of Alejandro facing an armed interrogation. Careful, Benicio.
According to Del Toro, Sicario fans can expect to see a slightly different take on his character this time around. “In the first movie we just learn that [Alejandro’s] a quiet guy, a little bit of a robot, bent on vengeance,” he told Empire. “In this one we see another side to him, a human side.”
