We thought Marty Scorsese couldn’t find a better cast than the one he assembled for The Departed – DiCaprio! Damon! Nicholson! Baldwin! Sheen! Wahlberg! – and, in the final analysis we’ll probably be proved correct. But he’s certainly giving it a hell of a go with his new film, Shutter’s Island.
As we reported earlier, the thriller – based on Dennis Lehane’s novel about two US Marshals who travel to an isolated island off Boston in search of an escaped murderess, only to be trapped there by a hurricane and a riot at the island’s mental hospital – can already boast Leonardo DiCaprio as the film’s protagonist, Teddy Daniels, and Mark Ruffalo as his partner, Chuck Aule.
And today, Ben Kingsley – sorry, Sir Ben – signed on to play the hospital’s chief physician, J. Cawley, a man with a dark secret or twenty. And that can only be a good thing, as Kingsley is all kinds of awesome.
A couple of roles have yet to be cast, including that of Rachel Solando, the escapee who kicks it all off, so we await that with bated breath. And yes, ok, the cast isn’t as eye-catching or striking as The Departed, but any movie featuring Leo – sorry, Sir Leo – and Ruffalo – sorry, Sir Ruffalo – and Sir Ben – sorry, Sir Sir Ben – is fine by us.
