Given that Star Trek Beyond wrapped principal photography in October last year and has a release date set for this July, you might be surprised to learn that Iranian actress Shohreh Aghdashloo is joining the cast. But thanks to some additional shooting, she'll be part of the film.
According to Deadline, she'll be on set this coming week to play a role the site is describing as the "High Command of the Federation", which makes us think she'll be the Federation President. We'll have to wait and see how she fits into the eventual film, but the reshoots are likely the scheduled pickups and additional bits of footage that movies of Beyond's size usually budget and schedule for.
The film finds Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and the crew out on their five-year mission to explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and yada yada, you likely know the rest. But in this instance, they discover that not everyone is sold on the ways of the Federation, and soon the crew are stranded on a forbidding planet with no ship and little hope of rescue...
With Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg (who wrote the shooting script with Doug Jung), Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella in the cast, director Justin Lin is keeping Star Trek Beyond on track for a July 22 release here and in the US.
