Looks like Shia LaBeouf is aiming to get back to his dramatic roots after spending some time in Blockbuster territory, signing on to The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman for Mandate Pictures.
The script, written by Matt Drake, was on the 2007 version of the Black List, the annual gathering of the screenplays that Hollywood execs, agents and other consider to be the best unproduced work.
So what’s the story? The Risky Business Blog reports that LaBeouf would play the titular lead character, who heads off to Budapest to clear his head and heart after his mother dies of cancer. But his trip turns complicated when he falls for a mysterious Hungarian girl. Cue romance! Cue violence! Cue Shia shouting "No!" at some point. Probably.
Adverts director Dante Ariola is the man making his debut behind the camera for this one, which Mandate wants shooting later this year. Assuming, that is, that Shia doesn’t get stepped on by Megatron while making Transformers 3, or something.
