There have been films about martial arts and movie legend Bruce Lee in the past, but none have come with the backing of his family, or the depth of research this one hopes to offer. Elizabeth's Shekhar Kapur is on to direct Little Dragon.
Lee's daughter, Shannon Lee, has researched new information about her father's formative years, and turned that into a script with Kapur for a film that will explore how the social and political forces of 1950s Hong Kong shaped the most famous martial arts star of all time. “I always thought that a film about how my father’s life was shaped in his early years in Hong Kong would be a worthwhile story to share so we could better understand him as a human being and a warrior,” says Lee in a statement carried by Variety. “I’m really excited that Shekhar will breathe life into the first film from Bruce Lee Entertainment.”
Kapur is in pre-production on the film, looking to kick off shooting this July in Malaysia once he has found the person – or people, depending on the length of time the biopic will cover — to play Lee. No easy task...
