He’s spent the last few years interspersing film roles with a regular role on Boardwalk Empire. But though the prohibition-era HBO drama is wrapping up its final season, Shea Whigham won’t be without a TV home for too long. He’s signed on for a lead role on Marvel’s Agent Carter.
With Hayley Atwell returning as Peggy Carter herself, Agent Carter will track the character as she deals with post-war America in 1946. Peacetime has not been the best time for Carter, marginalized by her colleagues and balancing administrative work with much more important, stealthy duties at the Strategic Scientific Reserve, helping to build what will eventually become S.H.I.E.L.D. We glimpsed something of her world in the Marvel One-Shot Agent Carter, which accompanied** Iron Man 3**'s Blu-ray.
Whigham is set to play Roger Dooley, chief at the SSR and boss of agents Carter, Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) and Sousa (Enver Gjokaj). He joins a cast that also includes James D’Arcy, and, assuming he makes a deal, Dominic Cooper.
Agent Carter is scheduled to air in between the two halves of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s second season.
Meanwhile, Whigham will be back on the big screen in Terrence Malick’s Knight Of Cups and Vince Vaughn crime thriller Term Life.
