Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds

This is news that exists in duality – it's both surprising and not at all shocking to report that Free Guy and The Adam Project director Shawn Levy will team up for a third time with those films' star Ryan Reynolds to make Deadpool 3.

It's not a shock that the pair – who have formed a clear friendship and healthy working relationship – would look to collaborate again. The surprising part is that Levy, who has rarely strayed beyond family-friendly territory in his directorial gigs – would tackle the Merc with a Mouth, known for violent action, vulgar language and endless cracks at Wolverine/Hugh Jackman.

Still, we've known for a while that Disney wanted to bring Deadpool into the MCU and that the Mouse House – per former CEO Bob Iger – was willing to let Wade Wilson be Wade Wilson in all his filthy glory. And we're sure there will be plenty of jokes about a PG-13 Deadpool.

Those are coming courtesy of Bobs Burgers animated show writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, who are working with Deadpool scripting veterans Paul Wernickand Rhett Reese.

There's no indication yet on when the movie might emerge and whether it'll fit into one of the MCU's "phases" or exist as its own thing, but this is exciting news nonetheless. And, given Levy's past working with Jackman, the jokes about him will surely continue...
