We can almost see the warning ads now: "This is Sharon Stone's career. This is Sharon Stone's career on television…" Yes, Shazza has signed on to appear in four episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

While the long-running US cop drama franchise (the mothership series, simply called Law & Order, just got picked up for its 21st year) isn't exactly junk television, it's not the sort of venue one might expect an Oscar nominated actress to turn up in. That said, the entire** L&O** franchise is notorious for its ability to attract names to guest roles.

According to Entertainment Weekly, she'll be playing a cop-turned-prosecutor who will interact with regular Detectives Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Benson (Mariska Hartigay).

It's not her first taste of small screen work - she's won an Emmy for her appearance on legal drama The Practice and also was a recurring character on little scene dysfunctional family drama Huff. Perhaps Stone will use it as a jumping off point to secure her own show - she could use a kudos boost…
