You may already know that District 9 and Chappie director Neill Blomkamp has been busy with a few collaborators building Oats Studios, where they can make short films and other projects that may end up as the seeds for full movies. The latest offering, God, is now up.
Starring Blomkamp regular Sharlto Copley (who has appeared in all three of the director's main features so far), God's first volume finds the traditional image of the almighty – old man with a big white beard – annoyed that humanity is developing faster than he might like. So he and his butler Geoffrey devise all manner of problems for the burgeoning species taking its first steps into a wider world.
It's a fun and slightly twisted little short, and while it may not lead to anything more than other potential volumes of the story (if you want to see them, you can support the Oats team at their site), we're happy to watch Copley as a capricious, cheeky, Terry Gilliam-style deity.
