Sharlto Copley’s off travelling for work again – not to the future this time, but to Russia for a new sci-fi action movie called **Hardcore.
It’s the brain-spawn of writer / director / punk rocker Ilya Naishuller, whose short film Bad Motherf****r caught the eye of Timur Bekmambetov and landed him a deal to make a movie.
Like the short that launched it (you can watch that at the bottom of the page, but beware some NSFW content), Hardcore will be shot in an inventive, first-person POV style that will hopefully make better use of the technique than the dodgy sequence in 2005's Doom.
The plot details are being kept quiet, but apparently Copley will be swapping his recent villainous roles for a more heroic character who has to take out bad guys to rescue a damsel in distress. Naishuller is shooting in Russia, but the dialogue will be English.
Copley will next show up as the vicious mercenary Kruger in old pal Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium (out August 21) and will also be seen in Oldboy (December 6) and Maleficent, which stalks on to our screens next year.
