Shake It Like A Hollywood Picture

Outkast cast in musical

Hippity hop combo Outkast have won over pretty much the entire world with their infectious combo of catchy riffs, funky videos and natty golf wear. The only surprise, therefore, is that it has taken Hollywood so long to come calling. At last, however, the dapper duo are to star in a musical for that giant of quality TV, HBO. The as-yet untitled project will be set in a speakeasy in Prohibition-era America. Andre 3000 will play the house piano player with partner Big Boi as the lead performer and manager who is trying to stave off a gangster takeover of his business. The all-singing, all-dancing film will feature contemporary tunes, including a few from the band's multi-award winning "Speakerboxx / The Love Below" album as well as new material written for the feature. With a veteran Broadway choreographer signed on to oversee the dancing and the band's favourite music video director making his feature debut, it will be interesting to see if Outkast will enjoy the breakout film success of, say, Cher, Mandy Moore or, er, Luke Goss, or if this will turn out more like the film career of Brittney Spears. The musical is slated for a cinema release, so we should all get a chance to see for ourselves soon enough. In the meantime put on your plus fours, brush off your spats and remember that shaking Polaroids actually detracts from picture quality.
