The title Sausage Party, combined with This Is The End co-writer/directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, conjures up all manner of terrible, filthy jokes. So it’s something of a surprise to learn that it will actually be the animated adventures of a sausage{
Make no mistake, however: Rogen and Goldberg aren’t going down the sappy, believe-in-yourself kiddie ‘toon route with this one. Sony has made a deal to produce the film alongside Annapurna Pictures and we’re warned up front that it’ll have an R-rating across the pond. So, yes, expect filth. Which is not what you want when considering food, surely?
Though they’ll be closely involved as writers and producers, Seth and Evan won’t be directing this one. They’re sharing script duties with Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir, working from a story idea they came up with alongside Jonah Hill, which we figure emerged from some enjoyable downtime on the This Is The End set. DreamWorks Animation veteran Conrad Vernon is directing alongside Greg Tiernan.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the story will follow one banger's journey to discover the truth about his existence after falling out of a shopping trolley. Can he make it back through the supermarket to his aisle before the Fourth of July? And what sausage wants to be on a shelf before one of the biggest barbequing holidays in America anyway?
This one is apparently aimed at a 2015 release date, which seems sensible since nothing else is scheduled that year. And by nothing, we mean EVERYTHING. Take your time animators: 2016 might be a better bet. To hear Rogen and Goldberg chat This Is The End, take a listen to what happened when they stopped by our Pod-booth...
