TV animation powerhouse Seth MacFarlane – the man who brought the world the likes of Family Guy and American Dad – has decided to stretch his plan for domination to the big screen, lining up Ted, a new comedy he’s co-written and will direct for Universal.

Deadline New York reports that MacFarlane is keeping the film tightly under wraps for now, though what little detail has leaked so far points to a Chipmunks/Smurfs-style blend of live-action and CG, though aimed at a decidedly more adult audience. Oh, and it’s the story of a man and his teddy bear.

MacFarlane penned the idea with Family Guy writers Alex Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, and will be providing a voice for the furry creature as well as taking a supporting role. All this in addition to the hours he puts in overseeing his three TV ‘toons, for which he provides most of the voices.

Meanwhile, the team at 20th Century Fox will just have to keep waiting and hoping that MacFarlane eventually gets round to the Family Guy movie he’s been talking about for years. Maybe when Ted is finished…
