It looked for a while as though Netflix would be the place where shows could live on as long as their creators wanted. But the streaming service has begun swinging the axe much more frequently, with continent-spanning connected consciousness drama Sense8 a recent cancellation victim. After an audience outcry, the company has now announced that showrunners Lana Wachowski, J. Michael Straczynski and Grant Hill will have a two-hour finale to wrap up the story.

That represents some small compensation for fans of the show, which was expensive to make and featured a sprawling cast across a number of countries. _Sense_8 chronicles eight connected characters, known as Sensates, from all over the world who had to figure out this mysterious link between their minds and what it meant for them and the future of humanity. And manage all that while also dealing with their own personal dramas and battling a nefarious force looking to do them harm. Lana Wachowski's statement on the new finale, posted to Twitter, is below.

The likes of Doona Bae, Tuppence Middleton, Jamie Clayton and Brian J. Smith star in the show, which ran for two seasons and will be concluded in the finale next year.
