Most of Selena Gomez' 2020 output has been music, films she helped produce or her voice role in Dolittle. But she's now attached to a new project that will see her playing pioneering Peruvian mountaineer and social entrepreneur Silvia Vásquez-Lavado in In The Shadow Of The Mountain.
She may not be a household name on these shores, but Vásquez-Lavado has certainly lived a memorable life so far. For a start, she's the first LGBTQ woman to complete the Seven Summits, the highest mountains on each of the seven continents, including Mount Everest. She is also the founder of Courageous Girls, a nonprofit that helps survivors of sexual abuse and trafficking, and has organized excursions for abuse survivors to the Mount Everest base camp.
Gomez is also producing the film, which has Little Birds' Elgin James adapting Vásquez-Lavado's memoir, due for publication in 2022, and directing the eventual film.
