Director Ava DuVernay has proven she can turn her hand to different genres, but she's rarely better than on blistering form addressing real-world issues. When They See Us, her new drama for Netflix, promises to show that side of her at full power. Check out the new, full trailer for the series.

The four-episode series – each directed by DuVernay, who also co-wrote alongside Attica Locke, Robin Swicord and Michael Starrbury – tells the story of the "Central Park Five", five teenagers of colour from Harlem who were convicted of a rape they hadn’t committed. The show will take place across 25 years, from the teens’ initial questioning about the crime in 1989, through to their eventual settlement in New York in 2014.

It stars the likes of Jovan Adepo, Hamilton veteran Christopher Jackson, Storm Reid, Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, Famke Janssen, John Leguizamo and more.

When They See Us arrives in full on the streaming service on 31 May.
