Veterans Day in the US feels like the right time for a true story of servicemen and heroism on the ocean: the new trailer for The Finest Hours has launched online.
Set in 1952, The Finest Hours finds the shore of Cape Cod in New England battered by one of the most disastrous storms ever to hit the East Coast of the US. As a massive oil tanker is caught and literally ripped apart by the waves and the wind, a brave Coast Guard crew heads out to rescue the sailors still trapped aboard the rapidly sinking vessel. But the job will not be an easy one, especially given the treacherous conditions.
Chris Pine leads his team into danger at the behest of Eric Bana’s commander (did he learn nothing from interacting with Bana’s Nero in the 2009 Star Trek?), while his fiancée (Holliday Grainger) demands the return of the crew, worried that they’ve been sent on a suicide mission.
Fright Night’s Craig Gillespie directs this one, working from a script by The Fighter’s Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson that adapts Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias’ 2010 non-fiction book about the incident. The film also features Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Graham McTavish, Kyle Gallner and Rachel Brosnahan and will dock with UK cinemas on January 29.
