No one could accuse venerable pop culture publication Entertainment Weekly of not covering the ever-living hell out of The Hunger Games. They’ve hung on every casting story so far and talked to just about everyone involved with the books. Well, their attention has been rewarded with the first pic of Jennifer Lawrence in costume as Katniss Everdeen for the movie, which you can see below.
Susanne Collins’ trilogy about a dark future where kids are forced to fight to the death by a cruel government intent on keeping the people down is currently shooting under the direction of Gary Ross.
Lawrence talks about getting the role and the heavily divided reactions to the choice of the Winter’s Bone breakout star. And she also realises what an impact this might have on her future. “I knew that as soon as I said yes, my life would change,” she says. “And I walked around an entire day thinking ‘It’s not too late, I could still go back and do indies, I haven’t said yes yet, it’s not too late.’” There’s more with Lawrence over at EW.
The Hunger Games also features Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Wes Bentley, Willow Shields, Jack Quaid and a host of newcomers. It’ll be out on March 23 next year.
