After his recent performance as a charming surgeon with cannibalistic tendencies in Mimi Cave’s Fresh, out now on Disney+, Sebastian Stan is turning his attention to a different kind of medical procedure for his next project, as reported by Deadline – A Different Man, a new psychological thriller financed and produced by A24.
Written and directed by Aaron Schimberg, Stan will play Edward, somewhat of an outsider who undergoes drastic facial reconstructive surgery in an attempt at getting a fresh start. That doesn’t quite go to plan when he becomes obsessed with a man starring as him in a stage production of his former life.
The cast will also include Renate Reinsve, the BAFTA-nominated breakout star of Joachim Trier’s critically acclaimed 2022 drama The Worst Person In The World, and Adam Pearson, who you may remember from Jonathan Glazer’s mind-bending, Scarlett Johansson-starring sci-fi Under The Skin. Pearson has worked with Schimberg before on previous film Chained For Life, in which a beautiful 1950s actress struggled to come to terms with her co-star’s physical differences. Pearson has neurofibromatosis, a condition that affects his appearance, and has long been involved in campaigns and outreach programmes to prevent bullying around these issues.
Stan is also on executive producing duty, and production on the film starts next month.
