Ecuadorian filmmaker Sebastián Cordero has signed up to direct Harrison Ford’s next movie. Set in 1865, Manhunt will see Ford returning to the thriller genre, playing a Civil War hero who’s assigned to track down and apprehend President Lincoln’s assassin. The action will be based on the account of the story in an upcoming novel, Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase For Lincoln's Killer by James L. Swanson.

Cordero’s two previous films as writer-director are Ratas, Ratones, Rateros, a kind of Ecuadorian City Of God, and Crónicas, which starred John Leguizamo as an American reporter hunting down a South American serial killer. The similarity in story between Crónicas and Manhunt may explain why the relatively inexperienced Cordero was picked for this big-budget star vehicle. The film is scheduled to begin shooting this winter.
