All hail the Sub-Mariner

Oh to be a shareholder at Marvel Comics. They've been churning out iconic superheroes for years with nought but a string of low-rent TV series and a couple of straight-to video features to show for it. Then Bryan Singer comes along with X-Men and big men in tights are the next big thing. Spider-Man will be swinging this way in June, Ang Lee's The Hulk and Ben Affleck-starrer Daredevil are rapidly taking shape and now another comicbook icon is making the transition to Hollywood money-spinner. The Sub-Mariner, with his Vulcan-eared good-looks and dainty, winged ankles has been optioned for a trip to the screen with Universal bagging the rights and Road To Perdition and Thirteen Days scribe David Self writing the screenplay. Son of an Atlantean princess and a randy sailor, Namor the Sub-Mariner rose to become king of the aquatic city and defends it against intruders while hopping shoreside to occasionally fight crime and generally save the world with his super strength, ability to fly and amphibious nature. Way to go fish-boy!
