That’s two down, one to go: after a lot of interviews, a few auditions and plenty of pondering, Peter and Bobby Farrelly have now chosen Sean Hayes to play Larry in their Three Stooges film.
Hayes, best known for playing Jack on sitcom Will & Grace (plus voicing Mr Tinkles in the Cats & Dogs films), has won the role thanks to his ability to carry off Larry Fine’s loveable simpleton style.
He’s joining comedian/actor Will Sasso (last seen in Life as We Know It), who was cast last month as Curly. Now the Farrellys will just need to lock in a Moe. Chances are they’ll find one soon enough, especially as they seem to have plenty of actors wanting to fill the role.
It hardly seems possible that the directing pair will, after more than 12 years of trying across several studios, finally get their Stooges project on the screen. It’s not going to be a biopic of the comic performers, but instead an attempt to bring their work to a new audience. “Our goal is 85 minutes of laughs in a film that will be very respectful of who the Stooges were,” Peter tells Deadline’s Mike Fleming. “It's by far the riskiest project we've ever done, without question, but it is also the one closest to our hearts."
So, do you agree with the casting choices so far? And if not, who would you cast?
