While Universal’s follow-up to Death Race is headed straight for the DVD garage, it would appear that the studio is still aiming to secure a decent cast for the sequel, with the likes of Sean Bean, Ving Rhames, and Danny Trejo all on board.
Okay, so we don’t mean a solidly A-list cast, but with genre veterans joining Luke Goss for a prequel story that will explore the origins of the man who drove as Frankenstein [the name, as you'll recall, was adopted by Jason Statham's Jensen Ames for the 2008 flick], it could definitely turn out to be fun.
Goss will play a convicted cop killer who becomes a star in the burgeoning reality show/gladiatorial driving spectacle hatched in the prison he’s locked up in.
Roel Reine is behind the camera for this one, and is already cranking his cameras in South Africa.
