Okay, now he’s just taking the mickey. Legendarily doomed actor Sean Bean, who is famous for coming a cropper in just about every film (or TV show) he appears in, has signed on to lead the ensemble cast of action horror thriller The 4th Reich.
Bean will be a sergeant major in the tale of a brigade of British soldiers in World War II who are dispatched to occupied mainland Europe to fight the good fight behind enemy lines. But what they find there is a terrifying new force cooked up by Nazi scientists, who have been working on an improved army to realise their dream of a fourth Reich. Because nothing says "easy to survive" like battling experimental Nazi super-soldiers.
The cast also includes Sean Pertwee (he’s contractually obliged to be in a movie like this at least once a year), Craig Conway and SFX-expert / occasional actor Tom Savini.
Shaun Robert Smith, who cut his teeth directing other horror movies and perfecting prosthetics makeup, is going to be both behind and in front of the camera. And if this story of soldiers finding something nasty in the middle of a war sounds vaguely familiar, you may not be shocked to learn that Deathwatch writer-director Michael J Bassett is listed among the executive producers. Shooting – of both the camera and bullet kind – is scheduled for this summer.
