It's been a decade since Scream 4 hit cinemas, and while the horror franchise hasn't been totally dormant since then – a TV anthology spin-off ran between 2015 and 2019 – now Ghostface and the terrified citizens of Woodsboro are back fearing for their lives in the latest film entry – a sequel rather confusingly just called Scream. Check out the first trailer here.
Directed by Ready Or Not duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a script by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, Scream will see a new generation of victims fearing for their lives when the masked killer returns. How are those slain connected to the original perpetrators? Must they follow a brand new set of rules? And, given that youngsters these days don't answer landlines, how will Ghostface call up and terrorize his targets?
Fortunately for the new cast (including In The Heights' Melissa Barrera, Goosebumps' Dylan Minnette, The Boys' Jack Quaid and Newly Single's Jasmin Savoy Brown), some of the old hands are ready to return to help out, including Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott (of course she has a gun, she's got to be prepared), Courteney Cox's Gale Weathers and David Arquette's Dewey Riley.
The trailer promises an update of the original that also serves as a continuation of the legacy – a tricky balancing act, but one that the talented Ready Or Not team can hopefully accomplish.
This new Scream will stalk into cinemas on 14 January next year.
