Last November, word arrived that a new Scream film was in the works, as a company called Spyglass Media Group quietly started development on the idea. And it would appear that it has found the directors for this new project in Ready Or Not's Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
The pair, who are part of the horror filmmaking group Radio Silence, are aboard for the film, though the details at this time are unclear. A big question will be whether it continues the story of the meta-tastic 1996 original (as with the sequels and more recent TV series), or finds a new take on the concept.
Wes Craven's initial film, written by Kevin Williamson, focused a knowing eye on the tropes of the horror movie, as the following films amped up the takes on the genre with the likes of Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard and Jamie Kennedy all part of the cast.
Given the pure fun level of Read Or Not, this could be a great combination of filmmakers and movie subject. Chad Villela, who works alongside the pair at Radio Silence, will act as one of the producers on the movie.
