Do you like scary movies? Because if you do, then we have some exciting news for you. (And if you don't, then read the headline folks — it's right there!) After several high profile departures and arrivals in the world of the Scream franchise over the last twelve months, the slasher series' seventh entry — which is set to see Neve Campbell re-enter the fray as Ghostface survivor Sidney Prescott and OG Scream creator Kevin Williamson take up the saga's directorial hotseat for the first time — has set a release date. As revealed by Campbell on Instagram earlier today, Scream VII is set to hit cinemas on 27 February 2026, less than a year and a half from now.

Now, if you're a fan of the Scream franchise, or have been keeping any kind of an eye on social media over the past year or so, then you'll know that the future of the slasher series has become as complicated to keep up with in recent times as the ever-changing identity of Ghostface themself. To quickly bring you up to speed if you somehow missed the headlines, the fandom was rocked last November by production company Spyglass Films' dropping of star Melissa Barrera over her social media posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Shortly after, Barrera's on-screen sister and co-star Jenna Ortega abandoned ship herself, citing scheduling conflicts as the cause for her departure. And then, to compound the iconic horror series' woes, Scream VII's then-director Christopher Landon dropped out a month later too after tweeting how his "dream job" had turned into "a nightmare", decrying "the din of a divided world" on his way out.

But those stabs at the heart of the newly galvanised Scream universe, which had found a whole new generation of fans with "requel" twofer Scream and Scream VI, haven't killed the franchise just yet. In fact, with Campbell back aboard, Courtney Cox reportedly circling another round with Ghostface as Gale Weathers, reboot writing regular Guy Busick on script duties, and Williamson — as much the godfather of the whole Scream endeavour as the great Wes Craven himself — heading behind the camera for this reboot-of-a-reboot, the slate is clear for the saga to reinvent itself once more. Here's hoping this one will be a killer in all the right ways.
