Well, there's nothing like keeping it in the family. Brothers Ridley and Tony Scott have nabbed the rights, hired a screenwriter and stuck a deal for their next project The Big Blow all to let Ridley's own son, Jake Scott, have another stab at the old directing malarkey. With only a couple of TV credits, music videos and the distinctly dodgy Plunkett and Macleane on his directorial CV, the nearest Jake Scott has come to true cinematic glory is being an uncredited stand-in for his dad in 1979's wondrous sci-fi classic Alien. But that's all set to change care of his dad and uncle's film company, Scott Free Prods., and the upcoming hurricane flick, The Big Blow. Set during the turn of the 20th century in Galveston, Texas, the windy pic follows a boxing match between a young Jack Johnson – who goes on to become the first black heavyweight champion – and Jack McBryde, a fighter brought in by the Galveston Sports Club to bring a white winner back to Texas. If tensions weren't high enough, the charged atmosphere of the fight is then interrupted by a hurricane – and not just a small one at that. The kind of inclement weather we're talking about is a storm that went down in the history books as the worst natural disaster in the United States. So, let's see what awaits Scott Jr, then. There's more than enough good dramatic mileage inherent in the racial tensions of the piece, a chance to squeeze in some Raging Bull style boxing sequences and a natural disaster of Twister-like proportions for good measure. Surely, even he can't cock this one up.
