Fairy tales, myths and legends are still kings of the development castle for Hollywood. Even if the story has been told a hundred different ways, some tales keep popping back up. Take Robin Hood: there are at least two other movies bubbling away, but DreamWorks thinks it’s on to another and has Scott Waugh attached to direct Merry Men.
Brad Ingelsby, who hit the radar with his script** Out Of The Furnace**, is on board to write the screenplay for the film, which Deadline has heard is a big-budget re-working of the Hood legend. But instead of focusing on Robin, this is apparently an ensemble effort that will give an Ocean’s Eleven-style reboot to Little John, Friar Tuck, Maid Marian and the rest.
Waugh is already working on one film for the company, preparing to shoot game adaptation Need For Speed with Aaron Paul starring. Ingelsby, meanwhile, is also writing The Signal and most recently finished **Run All Night **for Warner Bros.
The real question here is, is there much more juice to be squeezed out of the Robin Hood story? Or will it be, like Bond and Shakespeare, the gift that keeps on giving (to the poor)?
