Sci-fi stories about emotions (or the lack thereof) are having a moment right now – Drake Doremus had Equals (which has yet to make it to UK screens), and now here comes Wayne Kramer with Ecstasia. He's locked in Scott Eastwood to star in the film alongside Matilda Lutz.
Ecstasia, which Kramer also wrote, is set in a world where love no longer exists. It'll follow a couple (Eastwood and Lutz) who must spend their last days together before their own love expires. The drama is driven by the fact that love can be artificially stimulated through computer chips, but that the process is a costly one, and if you don't keep up your payments, you're forced into "dissolution", hence the all out of love situation for our main pair.
Kramer has been looking to make this one since at least 2011, but it's been in development limbo since then. Now it appears he'll finally get the chance, with shooting scheduled for early next year in South Africa.
Eastwood, on screens now in a small role in Suicide Squad, has a few movies due in the coming year or so, including action thriller Overdrive, Fast 8 and Ben Affleck's Live By Night. He's also attached to star alongside John Boyega in the Pacific Rim sequel. Italian actress Lutz has worked on Gabriele Muccino's Summertime and will face horror in Rings, the latest instalment of the Ring franchise, due here in November.
