Anything Jennifer Lawrence is looking to do... Scarlett Johansson will also do? Just days after it was announced that Lawrence is attached to a film about troubled writer Zelda Fitzgerald comes word that Johansson is also considering a project about her called The Beautiful And The Damned.
The Johansson-featuring take on Fitzgerald's life comes from Millennium Films, with a script from Hanna Weg whose title is a play on the novel by Zelda's husband, Great Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerald, who wrote the book as a thinly veiled story of their marriage. And unlike the competition, it will boast the cooperation of the Fitzgerald estate, which has offered a treasure trove of newly discovered transcripts from the sanatorium where Fitzgerald was confined that point to her husband appropriating some of her ideas as his own. Zelda's turbulent life as an accomplished writer, socialite wife to Fitzgerald and woman troubled by mental health issues is a compelling one and it's not tough to see why actors and filmmakers might be attracted to it. Millennium Films' effort doesn't have a director yet, while the team aiming to put Lawrence on screen is looking to make a deal with Ron Howard to handle the job, which would give it added cachet.
And those are not the only projects bubbling away in development about Zelda; Amazon has small screen drama Z: The Beginning Of Everything, starring Christina Ricci in the works. Watch this space to see which of the various projects makes it out first.
