Scarlett Johansson Buying A Zoo?

Now that he has Matt Damon in place as the lead for We Bought A Zoo, Cameron Crowe is busy finding actresses who can play opposite him in the movie. And it looks like Scarlett Johansson’s name is edging up his list as a possibility.

But before she starts shopping for appropriate wildlife park clobber (and assuming she can even do the film given her busy schedule), there’s the small matter of Crowe’s other possible choices. Amy Adams’s name has been suggested, and now Deadline reports that Rachel McAdams and** Scott Pilgrim**’s Mary Elizabeth Winstead could both be contenders.

We Bought A Zoo has been adapted by Crowe and Aline Brosh McKenna from former Guardian columnist Benjamin Mee’s memoir about the project he and his family undertook to restore the decrepit Dartmoor Zoological park, repairing the house to live in and saving many of the animals.

But the story takes a tragic turn with the discovery that his wife is suffering from fatal brain cancer.

Damon is on board as Mee, with Colin Ford as his son. Thomas Haden Church is playing Duncan Mee and Crowe is planning to shoot early next year to meet a release date of December 23, 2011. Question is, will any of his chosen actresses have the right schedule to make the role work?

And if you had to decide between the likely candidates, who would you pick?
