Black Adam as a movie might currently be without a release date, but if anyone can drag it to screens, it's Dwayne Johnson. The film is still adding cast members, with Sarah Shahi the latest aboard.
The film will chart the character – originally a nemesis for Shazam back in the days when he was still known as Captain Marvel – who rose from being a slave to meting out his particular, powerful brand of justice in the society of Kahndaq 5,000 years ago. It didn't end so well for him, ending up imprisoned for millennia. And now he's out and ready to keep fighting.
Across the years, he's evolved into more of an antihero, dishing out no-nonsense justice, something that will bring him into conflict with more straightforward heroes. Which include, in the film, the Justice Society Of America, led by Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Dr. Fate, Cyclone and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo). Shahi will be a university professor and freedom fighter leading the resistance in Kahndaq.
Jaume Collet-Serra is aboard to direct, and we're still waiting to learn when the film will start shooting.
