Though she's going to be busy on Broadway this spring starring in Arthur Miller's The Crucible, Saoirse Ronan will be taking the time she's not on stage for another job: starring in Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird.
Gerwig is making her directorial debut with the movie, which will see Ronan as a high school senior about to graduate, who is spending her last year at home in Sacramento before she heads off to college. Though she's normally be found co-writing with Noah Baumbach, Gerwig has been working with other filmmakers and is clearly ready to take the next step – and Ronan, who just won her second Oscar nomination thanks to her role in Brooklyn, is definitely a good choice for the lead.
Ronan most recently worked on a new film adaptation of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull and will also be seen in Loving Vincent, about artist Vincent Van Gogh. Gerwig has taken over the role of Dawn Wiener for Todd Solondz' Welcome To The Dollhouse follow-up Wiener-Dog and will also show up in Maggie's Plan, Jackie and 20th Century Women.
