Back in 2010, news arrived that producer Graham King was looking to put together a film based on Sally Wainwright's 2009 miniseries Unforgiven. Angelina Jolie was considering starring, but after years in development limbo, it now has Sandra Bullock aboard.
Adapted by Christopher McQuarrie from Wainwright's Suranne Jones-starring series, the story follows a young woman who is released from prison after 15 years for murdering two police officers. And now she's out, she's focused on finding her young sister.
Nora Fingscheidt, whose film Systemsprenger is Germany's Oscar entry for next year's ceremony, is on to direct, while Bullock will co-produce with King's GK Films. The movie – which is currently untitled, as no one really wants to have competition with the Clint Eastwood classic – now has a home at Netflix, where Bullock found success with Bird Box.
Whether McQuarrie will make any script revisions remains to be seen – he is, after all, a little busy at the moment. Plus, if he does work on it, you know our Chris will try to corner him in a room and record a 10-hour podcast.
