The trend for movies with a taste bypass is still upon us - and Wedding Singer star Adam Sandler is never far away. This time he's been criticised for Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo, the Mike Mitchell director film which Sandler executively produces. The goofy star is being slammed for the portrayal of a woman suffering from Tourette Syndrome, the illness which features uncontrollable use of expletives as one of its symptoms. Judith Ungar, executive director of US organisation of Tourette Syndrome Association, says the Touchstone Pictures movie has generated a record number of complaints expressing hurt, dismay and outrage at how the film ridicules the character. She says, "While it may not be against the law to ridicule people with disabilities, it certainly violates every sense of human decency." And it can only serve to further stigmatise the thousands of children and adults who must cope with having TS every day. " Ungar says most people with TS "lead productive lives in fields ranging from professional sport to medicine." Deuce Bigalow features Rob Schneider as the eponymous prostitute protagonist, who's 'real' job is professional fish-tank cleaner.
