Do you have 2015 release date fatigue yet? If not, we have yet another film looking to chance it in the ever-swelling ranks of releases, with word that Warner Bros. and New Line are hoping that disaster-venture San Andreas can muscle its way through the crowd to grab some ticket business in June 2015.
“Muscle” seems the operative word here, because the film stars Franchise Viagra himself – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – as a rescue chopper pilot stranded far from his estranged daughter when a massive earthquake hits California. It’s the first film starring Johnson to fight its way into 2015, and so far the only one of his to risk it. There remains a chance, however, that Fast & Furious 7 – assuming Universal pushes ahead with the film – may end up joining it.
Brad Peyton, who marshalled Johnson’s services for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, is directing the new 3D pic, which was originally pitched by Jeremy Passmore and Andre Fabrizio and has undergone a polish from Allan Loeb.
So far, the film faces off against DreamWorks Animation’s ghostly **B.O.O.: Bureau Of Otherworldly Operations **on that date, but the bigger challenge will come when Jurassic World stomps in the very next weekend. The Rock vs. a T-Rex? Hmmm… Tough call. As always, we caution that the dates set here are for the US, so we’ll have to wait and see whether the movie goes day and date or if we get it later (or even earlier) in the UK.
