While his time might be taken up a lot with return visits to Pandora for the Avatar sequels, Sam Worthington is still finding work on Earth. He'll star in a new, currently untitled action thriller for director Brad Anderson.
Alan B. McElroy wrote the script for the film, which Netflix is funding. The story is this: Driving cross-country, Ray (Worthington) and his wife and daughter stop at a highway rest area where his daughter falls and breaks her arm. After a frantic rush to the hospital and a clash with the check-in nurse, Ray is finally able to get her to a doctor. While the wife and daughter go downstairs for an MRI, Ray, exhausted, passes out in a chair in the lobby. Upon waking up, they have no record or knowledge of Ray’s family ever being checked in...
Anderson, who last made Beirut (released in the UK as The Negotiator), will have the cameras rolling later this year, though the days are passing quickly. Whatever it ends up being called – the previous title was Fracture – the movie should hit Netflix next year.
Worthington, as mentioned, will be back as Jake Sully for the various Avatar sequels now in production. The first, Avatar 2, will be out on 15 December 2020. You can learn more about the sequels with our handy feature.
