As Sam Raimi's Evil Dead universe continues to grow with spin-offs inbound from Sébastien Vaniček and Francis Galluppi, the horror maestro is getting ready to return to his genre stomping ground and scare the bejeezus out of us once more with a new chiller. According to Deadline, the Drag Me To Hell director has signed up to direct and produce Send Help, an original horror thriller, for 20th Century Studios.

Based on an original script by Baywatch writing duo Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, Send Help is believed to be an island-set two-hander that splits the difference between Rob Reiner's Misery adaptation and Robert Zemeckis' Cast Away. As 'X-meets-Y' pitches go, it's a doozy to be sure — even if it does conjure a particularly harrowing mental image of Kathy Bates taking a mallet to our beloved Wilson. It's worth noting however that, at this stage, Send Help hasn't officially been greenlit, despite the deal for Raimi to helm having reportedly already been sealed.

Despite receiving mixed reviews for his return to the superhero circuit with 2022's Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, Raimi's foray into the MCU — his first film since 2013's Oz The Great And Powerful — proved that the director has lost none of his capacity to thrill and chill. All being well and lights being green, it'll be *ahem* groovy to see the man behind the best Evil Dead movie (Evil Dead II, obvs) back in action.
