He’s only just made the leap to massive blockbuster film roles with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, but now Sam Claflin is lining up another hefty part with Universal crowning him its prince for Snow White and the Huntsman.
The fantasy film, which Rupert Sanders is directing, has suddenly hit high gear on the casting front, narrowing the search for the Huntsman character and putting Thor's Chris Hemsworth as the front-runner to snatch the role.
Claflin will join a cast that already includes Charlize Theron as the evil Queen and Kristen Stewart as Snow White. While the film will kick off with the traditional Snow tale – the queen becomes jealous of her step-daughter's beauty and dispatches the Huntsman to kill her – it then journeys off into different territory with the noble hunter deciding instead to train Snow up to survive and fight back. There’s no telling quite how the prince fits into the updated story, but from the looks of the likely new Huntsman and now Claflin’s royal type, there could be a love triangle in the offing. If so, Stewart will have to decide between two more blokes one of whom sparkles while the other turns into a wolf…
Claflin already has one other film lined up: he’ll star in The Seventh Son about a lad who must learn to deal with all sorts of supernatural beasties, ghoulies and creatures alongside Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore.
