At one point in time, director Joe Lynch was targeting Kate Hudson as the star of his new action thriller, Everly, planning to reposition her as a gun-toting assassin. That clearly never came to pass, and we have to admit that Salma Hayek looks a little more natural flinging bullets and trading one-liners with the bad guys in this trailer, available over at Apple's site.
Lynch and writer Yale Hannon have been developing this one for a while now, looking to make a film about a woman who betrays her ex. And, because he’s a mob boss, this is going to be one messy break-up, especially since he’s decided she has to die.
Not one to simply let a group of hired guns storm into her apartment with putting up a fight, Everly breaks into her stash of weapons to return fire. A lot... Hayek certainly fits the bill for an action hero, and the film appears to try a pared-down, limited-location style. Lynch will be hoping for less stress than with his last film, Knights Of Badassdom, which vanished into a limbo of distributor issues and re-editing, with Everly due on iTunes on January 23 and in US cinemas on February 27. An April 10 release date is pencilled in over here.
