After years of finding rising stars and those who might have been in need of a little career redemption, Marvel certainly seems to be doubling down on established names for one of its new projects. Salma Hayek in the latest person associated with The Eternals, as the studio is looking to slot her into the cast.
Chloé Zhao is in the director's chair for the film, which has a script currently by Matthew and Ryan Firpo that adapts Jack Kirby's comicbook creations. Created by the Marvel Comics stalwart in 1976, the saga begins millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically tinker with humans, creating the super-powered and near-immortal beings and a more monstrous off-shoot known as the Deviants. The two races moved behind the scenes throughout human history.
Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani Richard Madden and South Korea's Dong-seok Ma (AKA Don Lee) are all already on board, and pre-production has long been underway, but beyond a predicted 2020 release, we don't know much more about the film at this point.
Hayek, who these days appears to be going under her married name, Salma Hayek Pinault, will be seen in the likes of comedy Drunk Parents and action comedy sequel The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard.
