Sally Hawkins Joins Godzilla

We were already impressed with the cast gathered by Godzilla director Gareth Edwards. But with Sally Hawkins, we’re starting to feel like the guests at the ambassador’s reception in those cheese-tastic Ferrero Rocher adverts. Why, Mr Edwards, you are spoiling us…

Yes, with the new take on the giant reptile now shooting in Canada, Hawkins is aboard to play a scientist alongside the ensemble already recruited. So she’ll be working with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn, Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche and someone named Bigge Lizarde, who apparently requires a trailer 50 storeys high.

Little is known about the exact plot for the new film (besides the obvious creature chaos), but Edwards is apparently trying to give it more of a human angle.

The script has seen work from David Goyer, Max Borenstein, Dave Callaham and, most recently, Frank Darabont. Edwards is calling the shots right now ready for a May 16 release next year.

Hawkins, last seen in Great Expectations, has comedy pic Almost Christmas and Woody Allen’s latest,** Blue Jasmine**, set to arrive this year.
