The Stephen King-aissance is going strong off the back of It, Gerald’s Game, Pet Sematary, and with It: Chapter Two and Doctor Sleep still to come this year. Now a fresh take on Salem’s Lot is coming – King’s vampire novel that was previously adapted into a three-hour-plus miniseries by Texas Chainsaw director Tobe Hooper. This one’s going to be the first official big screen adaptation of the book, and there are some encouraging names involved.

James Wan will be producing the adaptation, though it sounds like he won’t be directing this one – he’s likely to be tied up with Aquaman 2 for the foreseeable future. Wan is also currently producing an adaptation of King’s The Tommyknockers, which looks like it’s still in early development at the moment. As for writing duties, this one’s going to Wan’s frequent collaborator Gary Dauberman – he’s written a bunch of the Conjuring universe movies (including the underrated Annabelle: Creation, and this year’s upcoming Annabelle Comes Home which is also his directorial debut), and also penned the screenplays of It and It: Chapter Two. Fingers crossed he can bring the same Maine magic here.

With no director yet involved, it should take a few years for Salem’s Lot to return from the crypt – in the meantime, there’ll be plenty of other Stephen King adaptations to sate your bloodlust.
